Abstract:
"Archiving Filipino-American Music in Los Angeles" (AFAMILA) has four main objectives:
- Expanding the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive's limited number of local Filipino-American collections.
- Preserving and increasing access to recordings already held by UCLA and the community.
- Producing and distributing a list of those Filipino resources that are currently a part of the Archive's holding.
- Hosting an end-of-the-project symposium at UCLA.
It is our expectation that scholars and community members will use the collection for research and as tools to promote Filipino-American heritage. We see AFAMILA as a model for future collaborations between the Archive and other LA music non-profits. Eventually, after working with a number of organizations, we envision a network of archive related partnerships, not only between our Archive and these organizations, but also between the community organizations themselves.
