Abstract:

The Business Resource Group (BRG) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization committed to promoting equitable capital access solutions, business assistance programs and technology-based program models that help fuel and sustain small businesses development in underserved markets. BRG s Small Business Capacity Enhancement Project (SBCEP) will expand the operating capacity of the local minority and low-income small business community and non-profit who serve them. The Project uses a Community Capital Task Force, a Regional Business Advisory Council, corporate and community partnerships, staff and a team of volunteers and consultants to develop new training programs, re-design operating processes and create tools which strengthen commercial credit education, increase competitiveness and enhance the operating capacity of disadvantaged small business enterprises and community partners. Through four project teams we will address growth barriers in a) capital access and credit education, b) entrepreneurial development, c) IT utilization and d)nonprofit operating capacity. Our collaborations with public, private, nonprofit and Los Angeles small business organizations to identify key obstacles that impede small business expansion. The project will use existing research data, economic development and business assistance surveys, data compilation, sampling techniques, process observation and business forums to development community responsive training curriculums and program material.
